The Governing Body

Our school governing body has eighteen members and is made up as follows:

  • As we are a Church of England Aided school we have nine foundation governors who are appointed by the Diocese of Oxford on the basis of recommendations made locally.  Two of the foundation governors must be parents with children in the school.  The Rector is also a foundation governor ex-officio.

  • We have four elected parent governors

  • We have one governor appointed by Bracknell Forest Borough Council

  • We have two elected staff governors

  • And last, but not least, the Headteacher completes the team.

Governors are appointed or elected for a four year term, but can stand for re-appointment or re-election if they wish – and most do!  It is not uncommon for our governors to serve for more than ten years.  So our governors bring not only valuable individual skills and experience to the school but also a real sense of commitment and continuity.

The governing body is often described as the school`s “critical friend” and this is a good summary of its role.  Governors work closely with the headteacher and staff, and the governing body, as a whole, has legal responsibilities covering a range of areas including admissions, finance, premises and personnel.
