St Michael's Church of England Primary School, Sandhurst - welcome to our website

Mr Chris Harris - Chair of Governors

My connection with St. Michael's school goes back to 1978 when my elder child started here, and I have been a governor for over twenty years.  My working career was spent in Air Traffic Control but I am now retired and so have a good deal of time to make a nuisance of myself in and around St. Michael's.  The school has changed greatly over the years, but I believe we have always managed to combine the best of the new with the best of the old.  It has been my privilege to work with many dedicated staff over the years and, in that respect at least, nothing has changed.   It has also been my privilege to have contributed, albeit in a very small way, to the education of several hundred children.  And after all these years, the year 6 leavers' service still brings a tear to my eye!

I have been a Governor at St. Michael’s since 1999.  My two sons, Chris and Rob, spent their entire primary school career at St. Michael’s.  Before becoming a multi-tasking mum and school governor, I worked in the computer industry in Personnel/HR for over 10 years based in London , Slough and Bracknell .  The most rewarding part of being a school governor for me is being a part of and belonging to the team of people who make St. Michael’s a lovely place to be!  As my boys have left St. Michael’s now, I am no longer in the playground and you are more likely to bump into me in and around the school office, although I did get the chance to read to Years 2 and 3 during Book Week!

I am the Rector of St Michael's Church, and have been a Governor of the School since Autumn 2004.  I serve on the Admissions Committee, and understand something of the difficulties for both  governors and parents when there are more applicants than places (my own twins didn't get a place at St Michael's!). As Rector, I come into school once a week to speak at assemblies, which I enjoy a lot.  My own 3 children are now at secondary school. I have been a foundation governor before, at a church school in Kent , and I am very keen to develop the relationship between the school and the church, for the benefit of both, and especially to help children to have the opportunity to explore the spiritual side of life. I am always willing to chat with anyone – parents, staff or governors - about anything that concerns them.
